You leave Cairo on the Ain Sokhna road, and after roughly an hour the desert opens onto the Gulf of Suez. From Sokhna the route turns south onto the Zafarana coastal road, and the Red Sea stays beside you for most of the way down.
The full run is roughly 450–470 km and typically takes 5–6 hours door to door. It is one straightforward coastal highway the whole way — a long, steady drive with the water on one side and the desert hills on the other.
We plan rest stops around Zafarana and Ras Ghareb — restrooms, coffee and a stretch — and your driver is happy to pull over for a photo when the sea turns that impossible blue. Leave Cairo in the morning and you can be in the water before sunset.
The flight to Hurghada is about an hour in the air. The whole journey is another story: crossing Cairo to the airport, check-in and security, waiting for bags, then another transfer to your hotel at the far end. A private car is one door-to-door trip with none of that — and if you start from New Cairo, 6th of October or Giza, it saves even more of the day.
